South Cariboo Farmers Market Society Code of Ethics and Conduct

The purposes of the SCFMS are:

  • to provide marketing opportunities for local farmers, producers, gardeners, and food processors by operating a farmers market in 100 Mile House;

  • to stimulate and improve local agricultural production, and to encourage greater consumption of local agricultural products;

  • to introduce local producers and consumers to one another and to educate the general public with regard to farm and food production issues;

  • to cultivate cooperation between citizens, businesses, and community structures in order to promote community food self-sufficiency.

  • to raise money, acquire funds, and provide other assistance for the purposes of the society;

  • to undertake everything necessary to promote and attain the fore-going purposes of the SCFM and periodically reassess these purposes

Membership is open to all BC residents who agree and wish to support the above purposes of our society.

Membership responsibilities and privileges:

  • members are eligible for membership participation in the SCFM

  • members are able to fully participate in all aspects of society governance

  • members will be an active part of growing community and food sovereignty

All members of the South Cariboo Farmers Market Society (SCFMS) shall commit to the creation of a safe, respectful, inclusive, community and business space. All members shall further be mindful that their conduct when away from the Market environs reflects on the Society accordingly, and ensure that a strong community ethic is represented by them.

The SCFMS is respectful that we are located in the ancestral and traditional territories of Secwepemc First Nation. As we honour our relationship with the land, so we honour the relationship and stewardship of the ancestors who walked this land long before we came to be here.

As a member of the Society each person must understand and agree to this code of conduct.

We welcome and support people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes but is not limited to; members of any sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, educational level, colour, immigration status, sex, age, size, family status, political belief, religion, and mental and physical ability.

  • Vendors and management are respectful and courteous to customers, other vendors, and to the Market Manager.

  • Vendors do their best to guarantee the customers’ satisfaction.

  • Members will conduct themselves with professional courtesy at all times.

  • SCFMS is an apolitical and nonreligious space; all members will refrain from espousing those opinions or beliefs during market operations or meetings.

  • Directors and managers, including volunteers, will always act in the best interest of the SCFM to the best of their ability and in good faith.

Zero tolerance will be allowed for:

  • personal insults

  • discriminatory jokes and language

  • harassment of any kind

  • unwelcome sexual attention

  • advocacy of any of the above behaviours
